Ortal: Stand Alone Front Facing 60" Gas Fireplace

The Five-Foot Freestanding Fire

A real gas fire in a room that was never built for one.

Who it’s for

You want a fireplace, but the room has no chimney and no wall cavity to build one into, and a remodel isn’t on the table. So the idea stays an idea, winter after winter. You need a fireplace that doesn’t need a wall. If you want a five-foot fire without opening up a wall, the Ortal Stand Alone Front Facing 60 is the one. Build a fireplace into the wall instead and you’re into framing, finish work, and weeks of construction.

Quick facts

  • Viewing area: 60″
  • Fuel: natural gas; propane conversion available
  • Controls: handheld remote with thermostat, weekly schedule, and eco settings; app and wall switch options

What makes it special

The Stand Alone line exists to put a contemporary fireplace into a finished space with minimal construction disruption—the unit stands in the room instead of inside a framed wall, so the walls you already finished stay finished. Installation is still dealer work; an authorized Ortal dealer handles the install and the annual service, and one sentence from our team will tell you what your room needs.

The controls run the fire so you don’t have to. Set 70 on the remote and the fireplace holds the room there on its own, adjusting the flame as needed. Program mode turns it on and off on a weekly schedule, eco mode cycles the flame between high and low to hold the temperature on less gas, and the MyFire app puts all of it on your phone.

Possible downsides

  • Front-facing glass only—the fire shows from one side of the unit.
  • The double-glass barrier version needs household power—choose that option and the fireplace won’t run during a power outage.
  • The black reflective interior panel is an option, not included.

If you want a real fireplace without a remodel, the Stand Alone Front Facing 60 is the right decision. The room it stands in becomes the room the house lives in.

Five log sets—standard, weathered driftwood, refractory clay, and short and long English logs—are included, with bonfire, campfire, Aspen, and charred-branch media, single branch accents in black, grey, and white, a black reflective interior panel, and a propane conversion also available.
